Background and Award Information
The California Energy Commission has issued a grant funding opportunity to demonstrate and advance the capabilities of virtual power plants that coordinate high concentrations of inverter-based distributed energy resources—such as solar photovoltaics, battery energy storage systems, and electric vehicles—to provide distribution-level power quality services, alleviate grid congestion due to electrification growth, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Up to $7.2 million in funding is available for grants awarded under this solicitation. Individual projects are capped at $4 million with a 20% match requirement.
Eligible Applicants
Eligible applicants include all public and private entities with the exception of local publicly owned utilities.
