Life at CTE
Hiring and Recruiting Procedures
CTE’s hiring procedures are designed to attract, evaluate, and hire a diverse pool of candidates while ensuring a fair and unbiased selection process. Updated guidelines provide structured interview protocols and clearly defined performance metrics to help mitigate unconscious bias within the hiring committee.
CTE New Hire Mentorship Program
This program aims to establish a robust support system for new hires as they embark on their careers at CTE. Each new staff member will be paired with a mentor, offering them a valuable resource and supportive guide throughout their inaugural year with the organization.
Staff Training
CTE coordinates ongoing training opportunities for staff to help create a more inclusive, respectful organizational culture. A portion of each annual Staff Retreat is also devoted to staff training with a professional facilitator/speaker.
Group Volunteer Activities
CTE encourages volunteer efforts across all our offices for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Inspired by Dr. King's legacy of service and social justice, this initiative reflects our commitment to making a positive impact in our communities. Starting in 2024, CTE began coordinating one group volunteer day per office to utilize annual staff volunteer time allotted.
Educational Outreach to Local Schools
During the school year, our staff leads hands-on engineering courses for students. CTE identifies and pursues opportunities for staff to present and/or volunteer at local schools, with a particular emphasis on inspiring and equipping young people in underserved communities.
In 2023, CTE’s Berkeley office expanded CTE’s STEM Outreach for Future Climate Leaders program by partnering with Community Resources for Science, a 501(c)(3) organization that promotes early science learning and connects STEM professionals with schools in historically marginalized communities. In the spring of 2023, CTE Berkeley staff taught their first hands-on lesson with students and plans to return to the school on a quarterly basis.
In 2022, CTE’s Atlanta office partnered with the Scientific Tools and Technique Program at Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta, GA to bring STEM curriculum to Dekalb County students. In the first year of the program, CTE developed a lesson plan and taught 11 courses, reaching more than 130 students. Educating the next generation of professionals in STEM about zero-emission vehicles through engaging, hands-on activities and providing them with career awareness on different types of engineering pathways inspires students to take information home, into their community, and into their future studies.
“Thank you all for an amazing visit. You all are the talk of Fernbank. I have students, who I don't know, walking up to me saying they can't wait to take engineering. Can you please, please tell your co-workers how much of an impact they had & that we really, really appreciate them taking time to work with our scholars.”
