Background and Award Information

The Maine Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) is seeking proposals for the development and operation of a qualifying facility that produces clean hydrogen. This project is in response to Maine’s 2024 enactment of the Act to Establish a Clean Hydrogen Pilot Program, which aims to provide a cleaner fuel alternative for long-range trucking and some heavy industry applications. MPCU will evaluate submitted proposals based upon the requirements stated in the Act, alongside additional public good considerations. The selected developer would be responsible to pay for the project, but MPUC may direct one of the state's power companies to negotiate a special discounted electric rate for the facility.
