Background and Award Information

South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a Request for Proposals for the Battery-Electric Switcher Locomotive Program. There is $190,800,000 in funding available for new battery-electric switcher locomotives and supporting charging infrastructure. Projects must be located within the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim and Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario Metropolitan Statistical Areas, which include Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

Eligible Applicants

Eligible applicants include locomotive manufacturers partnering with a rail operator and owners and/or operators of switcher locomotives.
