Background and Award Information

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released an amended Notice of Funding Opportunity for the Tribal Transportation Program Safety Fund (TTPSF). This program provides funding to federally recognized Tribes to address transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries in Tribal communities.

FHWA expects to distribute up to $24.5 million in FY 2025 and $25.1 million in FY 2026. TTPSF supports projects that improve transportation safety, with emphasis on strategic safety planning, systemic roadway departure countermeasures, infrastructure improvements, and safety data assessment/analysis.

Eligible projects must align with transportation safety plans and correct or improve hazardous road locations or address highway safety problems.

Eligible Applicants
Federally recognized Indian Tribes listed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Other entities may partner with a Tribe, but only Tribes may apply as lead applicants.


Important Dates
FY 2025 applications previously submitted by January 15, 2025 may be revised by September 16, 2025. FY 2026 applications are due January 15, 2026.
