Background and Award Information

The third application period for the Illinois Department of Transportation’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) grant program is now open. This round of funding will provide up to $65 million for the construction and operation of light-duty and medium-/heavy-duty charging stations along Illinois’s public roadways, including Scenic Byways, U.S. Routes, and Interstates. NEVI funds are initially directed to designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs) to help build a national network of EV charging infrastructure. AFCs in Illinois are located along most Interstates, and to be considered fully built-out, EV chargers must be spaced at a maximum distance of 50 miles apart and within one mile of the AFC.

Important Dates

The application period will be open until February 13, 2026.
