Background and Award Information

The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (VT DEC) is offering approximately $5.9 million in funding through Vermont’s allocation of the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust to support the replacement or repowering of eligible diesel-powered vehicles and equipment with electric alternatives. Funding is available for projects involving freight trucks, school and transit buses, freight switchers, airport ground support equipment, forklifts, ferries, and tugboats, with reimbursement available for both vehicle or equipment purchases and associated charging infrastructure. Eligible applicants will include public and private entities with qualifying diesel vehicles or equipment that will be permanently retired and replaced as part of the project. VT DEC will be accepting applications on a rolling monthly basis for up to six months or until the funding has been exhausted, whichever comes first.
