Background and Award Information
The Washington Department of Ecology has announced the availability of $15 million in funding for zero-emission school bus and vocational training projects.
Eligible school bus projects scrap and replace existing school buses with zero-emission school buses, as well as funding for maintenance, operations, and supporting infrastructure such as chargers. Eligible applicants for school bus projects are school bus owners that transport students to K–12 schools overseen by the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for the 2025–2026 school year.
Eligible vocational projects train school bus mechanics, bus drivers, and office staff about the maintenance and operation of zero emission fleets or prepare 8th–12th grade students for jobs created by transitioning to zero-emission technology. Eligible applicants for vocational training projects include cities, counties, Tribes, public utility districts/co-ops, transit authorities, school districts including skills centers, state government, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, and local clean air agencies.
Important Dates
An information session will be held February 24, 2026 and applications are due April 23, 2026.
