Background and Award Information

The Washington State Department of Transportation has announced the availability of funding for transit agencies to implement cost-effective capital projects that reduce the carbon intensity of the Washington transportation system.

Capital projects may include the purchase of battery and fuel cell electric transit vehicles; updating facilities for fleet electrification and/or hydrogen refueling infrastructure; new facilities that directly and primarily support fleet electrification; construction of charging and fueling stations to support transit fleet electrification; necessary upgrades to electrical transmission and distribution systems; in-house staff directly managing a capital construction project; and acquisition of property rights for capital projects. Zero-emission fleet transition planning activities may also be an eligible project.

Applications will open June 16, 2026 and are due August 18, 2026.
