Atlanta, GA, December 19,2019: The U.S. Houseof Representatives voted on Monday to pass its Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20)Appropriations Bill, including $87.2 billion for the U.S. Department ofTransportation (USDOT). The bill includes several key provisions related to theFederal Transit Administration's (FTA) Low or No Emission Vehicle Program (Low-No),including setting funding levels at $75 million for FY20, requiring all awards toexceed $750,000, and allowing applicants to name nonprofits as project partnersto support planning, technical assistance, and project management activities. These measures ensure dedicated funding to support continued growth of the U.S.zero-emission transit bus industry and provides appropriate resources fortransit agencies to execute successful deployments across the country.
Dan Raudebaugh, Executive Director for the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE), celebrated the change, stating:
"The zero-emission bus industry and community commend the House and Senate Transportation/HUD Appropriations Subcommittees for their leadership in supporting an increased funding level for FTA's Low-No program. The subcommittees also included important language on the program's implementation to help ensure these bus deployments are successful. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with this Congress in advocating for these critical provisions - ones that will allow CTE to continue our efforts to develop transportation solutions that combat the climate crisis and simultaneously support the US manufacturing base."
