CTE is providing technical support to APTA as part of an assessment of proposed electric bus battery codes and standards related to bus safety to determine which standards should be recommended for incorporation into the APTA Standard Bus Procurement Guidelines.

CTE is a sub to NV5 assisting Anne Arundel County Public Schools with electric bus transition. CTE conducted a route analysis, and assisted with bus specifications.

CTE is supporting ATL in the deployment of 10 MCI battery electric buses and supporting charging infrastructure. CTE, in conjunction with local partners Georgia Power and Heliox, is providing project management and technical services.

CTE is assisting Augusta Transit with the procurement of five GILLIG battery electric buses that will replace aging diesel vehicles. CTE's scope includes project management and technical support services including modeling to inform bus and route selection. CTE is determining required specifications to ensure the buses will be able to operate on the agency's identified key routes and is also providing technical support for bus build, deployment, and performance data collection for operations.

CTE partnered with Broome County Transit (BC Transit) on a successful FTA 2021 Low-No grant application, making it the only transit agency in New York to receive funding that year. The grant provided funding for BC Transit's deployment of six, GILLIG battery electric buses and supporting charging infrastructure from Heliox/Siemens. CTE is leading the project, providing overall project management, and technical support.

CTE is leading a team through the build and demonstration of a fuel cell powered container handler with wireless charging capabilities in the Port of Los Angeles. This project involves the Hyster-Yale Group, Nuvera, Fenix Marine Services and WAVE, among others. CTE is responsible for overall project administration and technical support including risk analysis and mitigation strategies, permitting, equipment and station deployment, training, and commissioning assistance.

CTE is leading a project team composed of Linamar, Roush CleanTech and Ballard Power Systems in the build and deployment of four next generation fuel cell package delivery vans designed for UPS to operate for an in-revenue service demonstration in California. CTE is responsible for overall project administration and technical support including risk analysis and mitigation strategies, permitting, equipment and station deployment, training, and commissioning assistance.

CTE is serving as project manager of a grant to support a vehicle-to-building solution that will retrofit one New Flyer battery electric bus and one New Flyer fuel cell electric bus with bidirectional chargers supplied by The Mobility House. CTE will coordinate key deliverables, manage the project schedule and budget, and will assist with the development of key performance metrics, and monitor them throughout the project.

The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE), along with its subcontractors Fiedler Group and GreenInfo Network, are coordinating with Caltrans, the California Air Resources Board, and GO-Biz to develop a statewide framework and toolkit for hydrogen infrastructure in California. Tasks include development of the initial framework, stakeholder engagement, drafting a final report, and developing the toolkit.

CTE is providing technical expertise for the deployment of 11 next-gen New Flyer fuel cell electric buses, a permanent fueling station, and maintenance facility upgrades at Humboldt Transit Agency. CTE will provide input on technical specifications for the vehicles, manage the procurement of the hydrogen fueling station and facility upgrades, and assist in collecting key performance metrics throughout the deployment.

CTE will manage and administer the work of the California Transit Training Consortium; these management services include: strategic plan implementation, course and curriculum coordination, training coordination, administrative and communication functions, grant management, board and committee support, financial management and reporting, and membership and industry outreach.

CTE is supporting COTA in the deployment of twenty eight 40’ New Flyer battery electric buses. CTE has conducted performance validation testing, led a ZEB 101 course in Columbus for COTA staff, and is providing 12 months of KPI reporting while monitoring project risks, requirements, and schedule.

CTE is supporting COTA in their battery electric bus and charging infrastructure Safety and Security Certification, as outlined in FTA Report No. 0252.

CTE is working with MTD to deploy their first ten 40’ fuel cell electric buses (FCEBs) and provide support in data reporting and operations, as well as continue on-going support and data reporting for MTD’s current 60’ FCEBs.

CTE will support Wendel's engagement with CTRAN/ Chemung County in the delivery of zero-emission transition planning services, evaluating the impacts, including infrastructure needs, of transitioning to alternative fueling technologies (specifically battery electric and/or hydrogen fuel cell).

CTE is supporting Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) with the replacement of conventionally fueled buses with battery electric transit buses procured through an RFP. Specifically, CTE is assisting CTA in developing a bus specification and will monitor the bus build progress. Once the buses are delivered, CTE will conduct performing validation testing on the buses. For a year following deployment of the buses, CTE will collect and report on key performance indicators for the electric buses.

CTE is assisting CitiBus with the procurement of four GILLIG battery electric buses that will replace aging diesel vehicles. CTE's scope includes project management and technical support services including modeling to inform bus and route selection. CTE is determining the required specifications to ensure the buses will be able to operate on the agency's identified key routes and is also providing technical support for bus build, deployment, and performance data collection for operations.

CTE is supporting the City of Columbia, Missouri (COMO) in the deployment of six battery electric buses, with three of the buses funded through a 2022 Low-No grant. CTE is serving as project manager and is performing bus and route analysis, charge and utility rate modeling, finalizing BEB specifications, conducting periodic inspections during and after the bus build, and reporting on key performance indicators.

CTE is assisting Corvallis in the procurement and deployment of two GILLIG battery electric buses and supporting charging infrastructure. CTE is providing project management, RFP development, and technical support services, including modeling analysis to inform bus and equipment specification.

CTE will update the City of Glendale's municipal fleet transition plan, originally submitted 2022, with updated market analysis, duty cycle assessment, infrastructure assessment, and CARB regulatory reporting requirements.

CTE is acting as a project consultant for RoadRUNNER's deployment of five 35’ BYD battery electric buses. CTE is providing technical support for determining bus manufacturing specifications, such as required specifications for bus operations on identified key routes, as well as support of bus deployment, strategic smart charging, and performance data collection for operations support.

CTE will assist RoadRUNNER with their deployment of 7 BYD BEBs, including project management, deployment validation, bus build support, and KPIs.

CTE is supporting the City of Lawrence in the deployment of two (2) Proterra battery electric buses and two (2) Optimal battery electric cutaways, along with the associated charging infrastructure, for their 2022 Low-No project. This will be Lawrence's third battery electric bus deployment project.

CTE is supporting Lawrence Transit with the replacement of five diesel buses for five 40' GILLIG battery electric buses and the installation of ChargePoint charging infrastructure. CTE is providing project management, technical support and expertise in route modeling, bus and charger equipment procurement oversight, performance validation, and KPI reporting.

CTE has partnered with Community Transit (CT) in Everett, WA to plan, deploy, and manage a performance-monitoring and validation program for the agency’s ZEB pilot program. The project will be deployed in two phases. In Phase 1, CTE will develop and implement a test plan for a BYD 60’ BEB, and subsequent KPI reporting for ~10 months. In Phase 2, CTE will update the test plan for a 40' GILLIG BEB, and a 40' New Flyer FCEB.

The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) has partnered with Community Transit in Everett, Washington, to complete a zero-emission bus (ZEB) transition planning analysis.

CTDOT will deploy ten (10) Battery Electric Buses (BEB's) in the Waterbury Division of the CTtransit system. These will be a one-for-one replacement for ten (10) existing diesel 35' buses at their Watertown bus depot just north of Waterbury. Equally as important will be the preparation of facility infrastructure to handle future 100% electrification of the transit and paratransit fleet. Includes (10) DC chargers, switchgears and breaker panels for electric infrastructure upgrade

CTE is supporting the counties of Hawai’i, Kaua’i, and Maui with the procurement and deployment of battery electric buses and supporting charging infrastructure. CTE is also conducting analyses and providing each county with a transition plan detailing requirements for each county to transition to 100% zero-emission fleets.

CTE is providing project management and technical support to Culver CityBus in the deployment of four battery electric zero-emission buses and supporting infrastructure. CTE's scope includes a market analysis, data collection, modeling and simulation to assess energy requirements, defining facility upgrades, and developing a transition timeline and cost/benefit model in support of a fleet transition plan. CTE is also helping Culver City understand the requirements for a small FCEB pilot.

CTE is working with CyRide to deploy two 40' Nova Bus battery electric buses and Siemens charging infrastructure. CTE is conducting route modeling to simulate bus performance, rate and charge modeling to inform vehicle charging strategies, performance validation, and KPI reporting.

CTE is leading multiple projects in support of Delaware Transit Corporation's deployment of Proterra and GILLIG battery electric buses and supporting infrastructure. CTE is providing overall project management, technical consulting, and deployment validation.

CTE is leading an effort for Delaware Transit Corporation to develop a full fleet transition plan to convert the agency's vehicles to 100% zero-emission by 2040. CTE is assessing the feasibility of the transition and analyzing technology options, transition timelines, and relevant costs.

CTE is working in partnership with the American Lung Association and three different fleet operators on the deployment of a battery electric school bus, battery electric rear loader refuse truck, and two battery electric box trucks in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area. CTE is supporting each fleet operator with key performance indicator reporting, with a particular interest in understanding the performance of these vehicles in cold weather conditions.

In this project, the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) has partnered with the Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy Systems (ARCHES) for a successful award under the Department of Energy’s Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs (H2 Hubs). CTE will leverage its Zero-Emission Smart Deployment Methodology to provide tailored project support for the procurement of over 1,000 fuel cell electric buses (FCEBs) and supporting infrastructure across 13 California transit agencies.

CTE is working with New Flyer and Robotic Research to deploy the first automated transit buses in North America. CTE is serving as project manager and technical consultant, overseeing data collection and reporting to FTA, and conducting analyses to determine the effects of automated driving systems on energy efficiency.

CTE is assisting FAST with the procurement of three battery electric buses that will replace aging diesel vehicles. CTE is also supporting FAST with budget overview and monitoring throughout the procurement processes.

CTE is working with project partners to develop, validate, and deploy fifteen fuel cell hybrid electric walk-in package delivery vans for UPS. CTE is responsible for overall project administration and technical support including risk analysis and mitigation strategies, permitting, equipment and station deployment, training, and commissioning assistance.

CTE is working under contract to Kimley-Horn to support the Fulton Industrial Community Improvement District in developing a Clean Freight and Logistics Master Plan. CTE's work includes a freight vehicle market analysis and stakeholder interviews to determine the ZEB infrastructure needs in the district.

CTE led multiple projects in support of Gainesville's deployment of four 40' GILLIG battery electric buses. CTE provided technical consulting services, deployment validation, and a year of KPI reporting on all buses.

CTE, as the prime contractor to Georgia Tech and in partnership with Nelson/Nygaard and Wendel, will produce a 10-year transit master plan for Georgia Tech to best align transit service with the current Campus Comprehensive Plan and sustainability goals. Key deliverables include a transit analysis on fixed-route and on-demand services, a bus fleet zero-emission vehicle analysis, and a study to determine the feasibility of a Transportation Management Association for Georgia Tech transit.

CTE is assisting Gold Coast Transit with the procurement of five (5) 40’ New Flyer hydrogen fuel cell electric buses (FCEBs), a hydrogen fueling station that will be able to support at least 50 buses to allow for future expansion, and maintenance facility upgrades to add hydrogen detection and alarming capabilities. These will be the first zero-emission buses in GCTD’s fleet.

CTE is providing project management and technical assistance to Greater Bridgeport Transit (GBT) and the Connecticut Department of Transportation to deploy five battery electric Proterra Catalyst E2 buses and the supporting charging infrastructure. The work includes modeling to predict the performance of the buses on the selected routes and the associated utility costs, charger selection, and coordination with GBT’s selected architecture/engineering firm completing the charging system design.

CTE is providing technical support to BSOOB as they deploys two Proterra battery electric buses and supporting charging infrastructure. CTE services include conducting route analysis, bus and charger specification review, validation testing and KPI reporting.

CTE, in conjunction with Nelson Nygaard and Hatch LTK, partnered with Intercity Transit to perform a ZEB vehicle analysis and to recommend the best solution/strategies for Transit in completing its transition to a zero-emission fleet. Following the first part of this project, Intercity extended its contract with CTE to 1. refine Intercity's ZEB transition plan based on internal decisions and 2. assist in the deployment of five FCEBs.

CTE is working with AECOM to support KCATA in the deployment of three 40’ GILLIG battery electric buses and ChargePoint charging equipment. CTE conducted modeling to determine how best to incorporate the buses into KCATA service, developed bus and charger specifications, conducted validation testing, is performing reporting on KPIs for 12 months, and is providing project management and technical advisory support.

CTE performs transition planning services for the city of Lawrence, Kansas. NV5 is providing support as a subcontractor.

CTE will develop an independent operational analysis to help City match ZEB technologies to their service requirements, including bus and route modeling, charge modeling, and rate modeling.

Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) will provide deployment support services on an on-call basis for Madison's deployment of sixty-two (62) 60' New Flyer battery electric buses (BEBs) to service Metro's all-new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. This project is intended to further the City of Madison's goal to become carbon neutral by 2030.

CTE provided MetroLINK with vehicle performance monitoring and KPI reporting for the agency's deployment of eight Proterra 40' battery electric buses. CTE also performed a series of transition planning assessments for the agency's 2022 deployment of nine Proterra buses. A key project focus was maximizing deployment miles while serving all communities in the service area and analysis of impacts for on-route charging.

CTE is supporting MARTA in the deployment of six 40’ New Flyer battery electric buses, seven Siemens depot chargers, and one Heliox on-route pantograph charger. CTE is providing overall project management as well as technical assistance for quality assurance, periodic inspection support, deployment validation and KPI reporting.

CTE provided technical support to St. Louis Metro throughout the RFP development and response evaluation process for plug-in depot charging equipment and is providing additional technical support as needed during project implementation, including review of technical drawings, equipment specifications, commissioning plans, and other documents.

CTE is supporting Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and project partners in the procurement and deployment of battery electric buses and related charging equipment. CTE is providing technical support and analysis to familiarize MnDOT's transportation division with battery electric bus operating characteristics, fueling requirements, and new technologies.

CTE is supporting Napa Valley Transportation Authority (NVTA) with the deployment of five BYD 30’ battery electric buses under the FTA’s Low-No Program. CTE is responsible for tracking project issues, risks, and milestones, supporting bus procurement, monitoring bus production and charging infrastructure installation, validating bus performance, and developing KPIs.

Through the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, CTE is providing technical assistance to transit agencies and school districts seeking aid in transitioning to zero-emission buses (ZEBs). CTE developed two transit fact sheets: one outlining considerations for operating ZEBs in hot climates and one for considerations in cold climates.

CTE has been contracted by the National Transit Institute to create a guidebook for agencies embarking on creating a transition plan for converting their fleet to zero-emission technology. The guidebook will address the key stages of developing a transition plan, as well as best practices and lessons learned.

This project will develop and demonstrate two next-generation heavy-duty fuel cell electric top loaders and develop a wet-hose mobile refueler to supply hydrogen for port equipment.

CTE installed data loggers on 4 NFTA cutaway vehicles, set up a data analysis framework, and reported initial and follow up results.

CTE is the prime recipient and project manager of grants from California Air Resources Board, California Energy Commission, Alameda County Transportation Commission, and Bay Area Air Quality Management District to support the deployment of 30 Hyundai XCIENT Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks. CTE's scope includes overall project management and facilitating key deliverables. The CEC awarded funding is allocated for building a hydrogen station and workforce training activities.

CTE is supporting North Central Regional Transit District's first battery electric bus deployment under FTA’s Low-No Program. CTE is providing project management, engineering oversight, and deployment validation services for their deployment in Española.

CTE will manage Port Arthur Transit (PAT)'s Zero Emission Electric bus project, including data collection and reporting, Buy America audits, technical advisory, and project management.

CTE is providing hydrogen infrastructure expertise and recommendations as a sub-consultant to Jacobs to develop a zero emission master plan for Pier A at the Port of Long Beach.

CTE is conducting a zero-emission transition study for the Port of Portland's shuttle bus service at Portland International Airport.

Deployment of twenty battery electric buses for their 2022 Low-No project. 5 BEBs will be provided by New Flyer. 15 will be provided by GILLIG. Upgrade the electrical system at the main transit depot for charging infrastructure, and implement a microgrid. Also install on-route charging at five (5) locations to expand BEB operations throughout the service area.

CTE will provide project management, data collection, analysis services, resource tracking and general administrative support on behalf of The Mobility House. CTE will also assist in grant administration and execution and help TMH achieve overall project performance targets that are compliant with requirements established by the CEC for the RVXDS project.

CTE is partnering with Riverside County Transportation Commission and IBI Group to assess and develop zero-emission bus rollout and implementation plans for multiple transit agencies and municipal transportation services. CTE's scope includes completing existing conditions reports, preparing a stakeholder engagement plan, and performing a series of assessments to determine the best methods for zero-emission transition.

CTE is proving technical support to Rochester Rapid Transit via SRF by conducting route and charge modeling to help the project team explore options, determine assumptions, and optimize electric bus operations. Analysis includes on-route charging, effects of auxiliary diesel heaters, and review of charger specifications.

CTE is supporting RMTD in the initial deployment of six 35’ GILLIG battery electric buses that have replaced aging diesel buses. CTE conducted bus and charger modeling, provided performance validation testing, and is currently providing 14 months of KPI reporting while monitoring project risks, requirements, and schedule.

CTE is leading two projects for Salem Area Mass Transit District (Cherriots) to deploy ten 40' GILLIG battery electric buses with inductive on-route charging. CTE's scope includes project management, technical support, and modeling and simulation to assess energy requirements. CTE is also providing oversight during the bus build, performance validation, and KPI reporting services.

CTE is helping SamTrans introduce FCEBs into its fleet. CTE evaluated hydrogen fueling solutions for a 10-FCEB deployment and supported procuring a solution. CTE studied the feasibility of transitioning SamTrans' North Base division to FCEB technology. CTE is supporting SamTrans in the deployment of its first fueling station and is validating the performance of the buses and station. CTE is helping to prepare a procurement for a permanent, large-scale hydrogen station.

CTE is supporting Santa Cruz Metro Transit District (METRO) with the procurement and deployment of five GILLIG 40’ battery electric buses and Proterra charging infrastructure through an FTA Low-No grant. The buses will operate on METRO’s Highway 17 Express Route. CTE is providing administrative and technical support, including validation testing and KPI reporting.

CTE will support SCMTD's 2023 LowNo deployment, including project planning and management, bus and route modeling, H2 fueling station cost modeling, FCEB tech spec and contract review, and H2 fueling station advisory.

CTE is supporting SMRT in the deployment of eight 35’ GILLIG battery electric buses. CTE has conducted route, charger, and utility cost modeling, is providing pre-deployment technical advisory, and will conduct performance validation testing, provide 12 months of KPI reporting, and monitor project risks, requirements, and schedule.

CTE will assist SolTrans with their deployment of 14 GILLIG BEBs, including project management, deployment validation, bus build support, and KPIs.

The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) is developing a plan for the South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) to transition their heavy-, medium-, and light-duty fleet vehicles and container handling equipment (CHE) to low- or no-emission alternatives. This study assesses the feasibility, high-level costs, and expected greenhouse gas reductions of transitioning approximately 300 on- and off-road vehicles to hybrid, battery electric, and hydrogen fuel cell models over a 25 year period.

CTE is supporting SWT in the deployment of four 45’ MCI battery electric coaches and six battery electric cutaways. CTE will conduct bus, charger, and utility cost modeling, develop bus and charger specifications, conduct an RFP process for cutaways, conduct performance validation, provide 12 months of KPI reporting, and monitor project risks, requirements, and schedule.

CTE is leading a team in support of an analysis to help Spokane Transit Authority identify economic costs, performance issues, risks, and timelines associated with the deployment of zero-emission buses. CTE is providing route and rate modeling, infrastructure evaluation and cost analysis, and development of an implementation plan for two high-performance routes identified to include on-route charging.

The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) continued its long-standing relationship with the Spokane Transit Authority (STA) through an additional contract to generally support STA’s zero-emission vehicle journey. The contract provides for task orders to accommodate ongoing and evolving needs from STA.

CTE will research, analyze, and summarize funding opportunities for Stryten Energy and support their strategic management team as they evaluate and pursue federal, state, and private opportunities.

CTE provides an initial assessment of SunLine's H2 production and fueling, including project assessment, assessment of technical concerns, review of project documents, true cost of H2 production analysis, and summarization.

CTE partnered with City of Fort Collins on a successful Low-No grant to deploy eight GILLIG battery electric buses. CTE is providing limited technical consultation on the bus procurement and infrastructure design and build and will produce a final report.

CTE is leading an effort for University of California - Santa Cruz to develop a full fleet transition plan to convert the agency's vehicles to 100% zero-emission by 2030. CTE is assessing the feasibility of the transition and analyzing technology options, transition timelines, and relevant costs.

CTE supports the University of Georgia in the deployment of eight New Flyer battery electric buses. CTE supports the UGA BEB build process by attending, monitoring, and providing feedback throughout bus procurement, build, and delivery processes, including configuration review, acceptance and inspection review, quality assurance, and Buy America audits.

CTE has performed bus modeling, route simulation, charge modeling, rate modeling, and confirmation of the technical specifications for 4 New Flyer buses and 4 Siemens chargers. CTE has also validated the performance and operation of the buses and chargers through our performance validation approach, and is conducted expansion and transition analysis of various fuel types for future full fleet transition. CTE is now providing 48 months of KPI reporting, from September 2023 through August 2027.

CTE will perform an evaluation of the market for zero-emission cutaways and vans and provide guidance to UTA on deploying those vehicles in paratransit service

CTE is working with UTA to deploy 10 Ford E-Transit vans into microtransit service in Tooele, Utah. CTE has proposed a charging strategy and estimated the expected fuel economy and range of the vehicles. CTE will evaluate the performance of the vehicles after delivery.

The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) and Jacobs will be supporting Valley Regional Transit with the deployment of eight 35’ GILLIG battery-electric buses (BEBs), four Heliox depot chargers, and eight Heliox overhead pantograph chargers.

CTE is joining Kimley Horne and Arcadis IBI to develop an Electrification Transition Guide and additional tools to support electrifying transit fleets across the Virginia Commonwealth for DRPT. A key outcome of this project will be a toolkit that will aid agencies in stakeholder engagement, understand the process and technical requirements for zero emission transition, and conduct their own FTA-compliant zero emission transition plan.

CTE provided project management and technical advisory services to assist WMATA in the procurement and deployment of two 60’ battery electric buses and supporting charging infrastructure. CTE conducted rate and route modeling, provided bus and charging procurement support, and developed a key performance indicator process for WMATA’s battery electric fleet.

CTE is working with WideSense to conduct KPI performance monitoring for multiple transit agencies (MetroLINK and two others) both before and after implementation of the WideSense software platform in support of their 2022 NSF SBIR Phase II program to measure the effect of WideSense implementation on zero-emission transit operations.

CTE works on  behalf of ZEBRA's membership to provide technical assistance and industry  consultation. CTE's scope includes managing the ZEB performance dashboard,  marketing and communications materials, financial administration, membership  on-boarding and meetings, committee administration, and coordination of  federal advocacy priorities.
