The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE), along with its subcontractors Fiedler Group and GreenInfo Network, are coordinating with Caltrans, the California Air Resources Board, and GO-Biz to develop a statewide framework and toolkit for hydrogen infrastructure in California. Tasks include development of the initial framework, stakeholder engagement, drafting a final report, and developing the toolkit.
In Phase 1, CTE will develop the initial framework through three parts. In the first part, CTE will identify local hydrogen hubs and corridors to establish a baseline for hydrogen development in the state. The use cases are focused on transit but will gather information from other applications including trucking, intercity buses, rail, and maritime. CTE will coordinate with other hydrogen efforts in California, such as the Department of Energy Hydrogen Hub, and ARCHES. Part two will assess hydrogen fueling demand and potential overlap around the state. GreenInfo Network will use the data from phase one to generate maps of existing, planned, and future hydrogen fueling and demand. In part three, CTE will identify barriers and develop solutions for fuel cell technology adoption.
In Phase 2, CTE will present Task 1 findings to a list of stakeholders for input. The results of Tasks 1 and 2 will be outlined in the final report.
In Phase 3 CTE will work with Fiedler Group to develop a toolkit that will aid agencies in adopting fuel cell and hydrogen technologies. Information will include best practices, safety considerations, how-to guides, and draft hydrogen station layouts.
