The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) subcontracted to NV5 for Electric School Bus consulting services. This initiative involves a route analysis to inform the deployment of Electric School Buses (ESBs) on Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ (AACPS) morning, midday, and afternoon routes. The route analysis focuses on selecting routes that optimize the integration of ESBs without compromising the essential task of transporting students to and from school efficiently. The project also includes active assistance in shaping the procurement process for zero-emission buses. This involves CTE assisting in drafting the scope of work for the AACPS request for proposals (RFP). Collaborating closely with the AACPS and NV5, CTE will contribute its expertise to the zero-emission bus procurement process.

In January 2024 CTE finalized the route analysis using the data AACPS provided on thirteen (13) of AACPS’ routes. CTE modeled and analyzed these routes (874, 807, 832, 808, 823, 880, 879, 864, 875, 836, 863, 831, 833) to inform AACPS’ route and battery capacity selection for the ESBs. The analysis informed AACPS’ decision to move forward with procuring a 315 kWh ESB. CTE is working with NV5 to provide inputs to the RFP related to electric bus specifications.
