In 2023 the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) completed an effort on behalf of the City of Glendale to study the feasibility, expected greenhouse gas reductions, and anticipated high-level cost for transition of all gasoline, diesel, and compressed natural gas non-bus fleets to zero-emission vehicles. The study identified the costs, performance issues, risks, and recommended procurement timeline regarding transitioning to the City of Glendale’s long-term goal of operating a fully zero-emission fleet. CTE collected, reviewed, and evaluated data on the city fleet’s operations. The City of Glendale has engaged CTE for a follow-on effort to update the study.

The goals of the transition plan update are to provide information on recent electric vehicle models available, review the actual use patterns of vehicles to develop an optimized charging infrastructure, update the analysis results, and provide a final report incorporating the full transition plan.

CTE is working on the market assessment update and analyzing the vehicle use patterns. Once these tasks are complete, CTE will apply the results to optimize charging infrastructure by location and update the report.
