The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) is supporting the City of Las Cruces RoadRUNNER Transit’s deployment of seven 35-foot BYD battery electric buses for their 2022 Low-No project. CTE will serve as a technical advisor, project manager, and advocate for RoadRUNNER’s interests throughout the project lifecycle.
CTE will collect data on RoadRUNNER Transit’s routes in order to model bus performance and develop technical specifications for the buses and chargers. CTE will use the energy consumption requirements identified from the bus and route analysis to conduct charge and utility modeling, minimizing charging costs and maximizing charging performance for RoadRUNNER Transit.
CTE will provide oversight for multiple partners during this project. Fulton and Kozak will conduct an audit to ensure that the buses meet federal Buy America Requirements. TransWorld Associates LLC will provide bus build and quality inspections.
CTE will also support RoadRUNNER Transit’s bus and infrastructure deployment, creating a plan to validate the performance of both the buses and chargers. CTE will conduct on-site testing of RoadRUNNER Transit’s buses in order to inform the finalization of RoadRUNNER Transit’s route schedules and deployment strategy. After deployment, CTE will collect and report on key performance indicators of the electric buses developed in collaboration with RoadRUNNER Transit staff for a period of 12 months. CTE will provide project support for additional months as requested by RoadRUNNER Transit.
