The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) partnered as a subcontractor to Jacobs to develop a zero-emission infrastructure transition plan for the Port of Long Beach’s Pier A facility. CTE’s role in this project is to evaluate hydrogen-powered equipment and infrastructure options.

One focus of this project has been evaluating the possibility of deploying a top handler with liquid hydrogen storage onboard the vehicle and supporting infrastructure. This has involved in-depth discussions with potential vendors and evaluating National Fire Protection Association codes to ensure compliance with regulations and to identify any areas where compliance may be difficult.

CTE will be providing narrative input to the transition plan in the fourth quarter of 2024.
