The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) continued its long-standing relationship with the Spokane Transit Authority (STA) through an additional contract to generally support STA’s zero-emission vehicle journey. The contract provides for task orders (two so far) to accommodate ongoing and evolving needs from STA.

In general, CTE will provide analysis and research on zero-emission propulsion systems, including vehicle and battery performance, and the infrastructure required to support these systems. This will include assessing the feasibility of various transit routes based on different propulsion options. CTE will monitor and provide updates on current industry trends, such as policy and legislative changes that may impact STA’s transition to zero-emission technologies. New vehicles, propulsion systems, and other zero-emission technologies of interest to STA will be identified, along with local resources, such as more efficient hydrogen sources, that could be utilized during the transition.

In addition, CTE will offer technical guidance and support in the development of zero-emission project proposals aimed at securing funding opportunities. CTE will assist STA staff with additional fleet data collection and provide expertise in analyzing operational data. CTE will also serve as a subject matter expert, offering guidance during meetings, workshops, and other relevant settings. Responses to inquiries requiring expert input will be provided as needed.

For the Spokane Zero Emission Fleet Support & Consultation Services Task Order 1 (Board Workshop), CTE prepared for and facilitated an in-person planning workshop with the STA Board of Directors as well as other STA leadership, providing the Board an understanding of the current state of the zero-emission bus industry, as well as providing details of the evaluation work that has been completed to date and is planned in the future for STA.

For the Spokane Zero Emission Fleet Support & Consultation Services Task Order 2 – On Call Technical Support, CTE will complete analysis and evaluation at the direction of STA.
