FROM THE DIRECTOR'S DESK
Well, that was crazy! 2020 was a year we won’t soon forget. We faced uncertainty in the midst of a global pandemic, historic calls for racial justice, and a political atmosphere fraught with tension. I am proud to say that through all of this chaos, CTE did not lose sight of our mission. We rose above challenges and seized every opportunity to make an impact for the sake of the communities we serve and the planet we cherish.
Thanks to the dedication and passion of our staff, members, and supporters, we accomplished some pretty impressive things in 2020:
- We worked with project partners on more than 70 zero-emission vehicle deployments, including placing the first zero-emission buses in Connecticut and Hawaii in service.
- Our staff authored excellent publications to help educate fleet operators and elected officials alike. Most notably, the Guidebook for Deploying Zero-Emission Buses is having a substantial impact on the zero-emission bus industry. See more details below.
- We hosted the 2020 Zero Emission Bus Conference online for the first time, gathering over 1000 attendees from around the world.
- We supported legislation that will expand funding for zero-emission buses by over 500 percent and called on policy makers to provide much-needed assistance to transit agencies during this difficult time.
As we rebuild and recover from an immensely challenging year, we are committed to helping the industry bounce back better than before. In 2021, we are focusing our efforts on several exciting goals:
- Broadening the scope of our research and development programs to develop and demonstrate technologies that tackle climate change
- Expanding our services to new markets to increase the uptake of zero-emission vehicles across the United States
- Advocating for increased federal funding for zero-emission vehicles as we adapt to a new administration
I am hopeful that 2021 will be the year that our nation gets back to work. Now is the time to come together and create the world we seek—one with clean air, climate justice, and healthy growing communities, all fueled by U.S. technologies and U.S. jobs. I believe our vision of a zero-emission transportation sector can be fully realized, but we can’t make it happen without you. Please consider donating to CTE today and be a part of building a brighter future with us.
Thank you for your continued commitment and support of CTE.
