Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Launches First Battery Electric Buses into ServiceÔøº
Over the past decade, CTE has supported more than 80 transit agencies plan for and deploy zero-emission buses (ZEBs), accounting for nearly 20% of all ZEBs deployed in transit applications across the US.
On this Earth Day, we are thrilled to stand with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) as it launches its first battery electric buses into service. This deployment is special not only because it involves our home-town transit agency, but these buses will serve two routes that pass just two blocks from CTE's Atlanta headquarters.
CTE supported MARTA's successful 2019 Low or No Emission Vehicle Program grant proposal that funded this project, and together with MARTA, partnered with CTE members New Flyer, Siemens, and Georgia Power for today's deployment.
This launch is a first step toward a full deployment that will include six New Flyer buses, depot charging equipment, and an overhead pantograph charger at MARTA's Edgewood-Candler Park Station.
We look forward to supporting further efforts by MARTA to adopt innovative transportation technologies, reduce its fleet's carbon emissions, and clean the air we breathe.
