CTE's Executive Director, Dan Raudebaugh, to Testify Before the US House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee at 2nd Full Committee Climate Change Hearing

April 21, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Atlanta, GA, April 2020:
The Center for Transportation and the Environment's (CTE) Executive Director, Dan Raudebaugh, has been selected to provide testimony on the subject of transportation and climate change in front of the US House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee at their Climate Change Hearing this year. Initially slated for March 24, the event has now been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be the second climate-focused hearing held by the Full Committee in the 117th Congress.

Mr. Raudebaugh will testify during Panel 2 of the Climate Change Hearing, which will consist of actionable recommendations for the Committee to combat carbon pollution. The Committee selected CTE for the panel as a leading non-profit engineering and planning firm with extensive experience in the research, development, and deployment of zero-emission vehicles. Mr. Raudebaugh will discuss the state of the zero-emission US transportation industry and provide recommendations for how to stimulate and support the increased deployment of zero-emission vehicles as a direct path to the reduction of greenhouse gases in the critical transportation sector.

Mr. Raudebaugh will focus his testimony on the opportunities for medium and heavy-duty vehicle fleet electrification and highlight public transit as the market leader and likely first sector to transition to 100% zero-emission vehicles. CTE will present how early lessons from transit's electrification are transferable to other markets. Across the transportation sector, 100% clean energy vehicles and fuels are being adopted for passenger transport, logistics trucking, freight, and even port and drayage applications.

On a recent press call to discuss next steps for a long-term economic recovery package, Chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Peter DeFazio (D-OR) stated, "I believe climate change is, even in times of coronavirus, an existential threat and if we've got to rebuild our infrastructure let's rebuild it in a way that is resilient for severe climate events. Let's rebuild it with new materials that are less carbon-intensive. Let's rebuild it in a way, so we move away from fossil fuel dependence in transportation. If you've got to rebuild it, rebuild it the right way. And this is an investment we have to make."

Even during uncertain times during the COVID-19 pandemic, CTE is pleased to have the opportunity to support the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in their climate change action and planning efforts. Mr. Raudebaugh looks forward to the opportunity to highlight how we can stimulate economic recovery while protecting human health and keeping sight of climate change mitigation goals through the advancement of the US zero-emission transportation industry.

CTE has developed a written report for the House Infrastructure and Transportation Committee's Climate Change Hearing to accompany Mr. Raudebaugh's verbal testimony.
